Worry Monster - A Gentle Tool for Understanding Anxiety
Help your child understand and manage their worry — without battles, pressure or fear.
The Worry Monster Script is a gentle, imaginative tool that guides you through helping your child externalise their anxiety, understand their body’s warning signs, and build a friendlier relationship with the part of the brain that tries to keep them safe.
Designed for children aged 6–12, the script walks you step-by-step through:
Normalising worry in a calm, reassuring way
Exploring physical warning signs using the body outline page (page 3)
Drawing and describing the child’s Worry Monster using guided prompts (page 4–5)
Meeting the monster through a warm, child-friendly visualisation (page 6)
Softening and redrawing the monster after the visualisation (page 8)
Gently future-pacing the child to handle the next moment of worry more confidently (page 7)
Everything has been written with careful developmental sensitivity — reassuring, non-clinical, non-scary language throughout.
This pack includes:
✔ A full parent script (no experience needed)
✔ A “warning signs” body outline page
✔ A guided drawing page for designing the Worry Monster
✔ A second drawing page for redrawing the monster after the visualisation
✔ Prompts that help children feel safe, calm and in control
No gimmicks, no “monster-under-the-bed” fears — just a grounded, child-centred technique used in confidence and mindset coaching.
Perfect for:
• Children who worry or overthink
• Bedtime anxiety
• School-related nerves
• Building emotional awareness
• Creating calm conversations around difficult feelings
Note: While the language is designed for children ages 6-12, it can also be effective with older children, especially if they have exams approaching.
